FAQ - Trauma Specialist Services

  • What does a Trauma Specialist do?
I provide therapy and support to students who are working through the impact of trauma. This includes one-on-one sessions, skills-based groups, and collaboration with other campus resources.
  • Who can see the Trauma Specialist?
Any Wesleyan student who has experienced trauma—whether recent or in the past—is welcome. You don’t need to have a “big” event to reach out. If you’re struggling with anxiety, flashbacks, relationship stress, or feeling “stuck,” you may benefit from trauma-focused support.
  • What happens in therapy sessions?
Sessions are collaborative and paced according to your comfort. We might talk through experiences, practice grounding skills, explore how trauma affects your daily life, or work on tools for managing emotions and relationships.
  • How often are sessions?
I meet with students every other week (bi-weekly). This gives space to practice new skills between sessions while making therapy more sustainable.
  • What kinds of groups are offered?
Skills-based groups focus on practical tools such as grounding, emotion regulation, mindfulness, and boundary-setting. Groups are supportive, structured, and designed to give students new strategies they can use right away.
  • Do I have to share details of my trauma?
No. You can share as much—or as little—as you feel comfortable. Some students choose to process specific experiences; others focus only on skills and coping strategies. Both are valid.
  • Is this confidential?
Yes. Everything shared in sessions is confidential, within the limits of safety and legal requirements. I can review these limits during our first meeting so you know exactly what to expect.
  • How is trauma therapy different from other CAPS services?
My role is dedicated specifically to trauma, so I tailor therapy and groups to address the unique effects trauma can have on the mind, body, and relationships. I also provide a space that centers trauma-informed, identity-affirming care.
  • How do I sign up?
Students can email me directly at agreen01@wesleyan.edu to get started. We’ll schedule an initial meeting to talk about your needs and see if trauma-focused services are a good fit.
  • What if I’m not sure I’m ready?
That’s okay. You’re welcome to set up a single consultation just to ask questions, learn about available resources, and decide at your own pace.
